Donor Spotlight: Celebrating Supporters of Crisis Text Line

Q&A with Annie Gregoire – Finding a Sense of Purpose Through Giving Back

At Crisis Text Line, the generosity of our donors enables us to continue to be a lifeline for others. One such donor, Annie Gregoire, supports us as a way to find a sense of purpose and make an impact on those who are experiencing mental health crises. This month, we’re honored to recognize Annie for helping us transform and save lives.

Q: What initially inspired you to support Crisis Text Line?
A: After completing Crisis Text Line’s Student Learning Practicum Program in 2023, I wanted to explore other ways to support Crisis Text Line beyond volunteering. I saw myself as someone who could also make an impact through a donation, which inspired me to support the organization during giving season.

Q: Can you share a personal story or moment that reinforced your commitment to supporting individuals in crisis?
A: One personal story that reinforced my commitment to supporting individuals in crisis is when I struggled to cope with multiple stressors, from loss and family issues to job-related challenges. Through my lived experience, I learned how important it is to have someone to turn to when facing challenges, which encouraged me to commit to supporting people in their most challenging moments.

Q: Why is it important to you to support mental health initiatives, particularly crisis intervention?
A: It is important to me to support mental health initiatives because I believe that efforts to address emotional well-being are as critical as actions to support physical health. Seeing how stress can impact people in challenging ways, including their overall health, I find crisis intervention particularly vital for helping people strengthen their coping skills and learn new ones.

Q: How do you see your contributions making a difference in the lives of those reaching out for help?
A: My contributions help by supporting Crisis Text Line in providing volunteer Crisis Counselors with training and resources, and research to empower others to maintain this critical 24/7 mental health support service.

Q: What drives your philanthropic giving overall, and why do you prioritize Crisis Text Line in your charitable efforts?
A: My appreciation for giving back and supporting efforts to address humanitarian issues drives my overall philanthropic giving. In my charitable efforts, I prioritize Crisis Text Line because my contributions can help support texters in crisis, including young people, dealing with a range of issues, such as depression, anxiety, bullying, suicide, isolation, family issues, health concerns, and school problems.

Q: How has giving back to a cause that is meaningful to you impacted you personally or professionally?
A: Giving back to a cause that is meaningful to me has enabled me to stay connected to my sense of humanity. It has helped me see myself as being able to make an impact while giving me a sense of purpose.

Q: What would you say to others who are considering donating to Crisis Text Line?
A: I would say, “Please make a gift to support Crisis Text Line. Your donation helps make a difference in the lives of people in crisis.”

Q: How do you take care of your own mental health?
A: When taking care of my mental health, I consider coping skills that help calm me. One of my regular activities is listening to relaxing, smooth jazz or classical music with a video of a crackling fireplace in the background, sometimes while resting or working. Also, I practice decluttering to help me let go and improve my mental health.
