Giving Tuesday: A Day of Compassion and Generosity
As we approach the holiday season, there’s one day on the calendar that reminds us of the true spirit of celebration, gratitude and generosity: Giving Tuesday. This global movement, which falls on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, encourages individuals and organizations to contribute to their communities and make a positive impact together.
Here, at Crisis Text Line, we are dedicated to providing critical mental health services and training volunteers who make a difference in countless lives. Our mission is to create an empathetic world where nobody feels alone, but we can’t do it without you. This Giving Tuesday, we invite you to join us in our commitment to change and save lives.
Why Your Support Matters
Service to the Community: We offer essential services that help individuals in need. Our free mental health service helps people in emotional distress and creates a stronger, more resilient community. Since our launch 10 years ago, we have supported nearly 9 million conversations and 12 million globally. Anyone, anywhere can receive fast, free and discrete support from our community of thousands of trained volunteer crisis counselors.
Empowering Volunteers: Our volunteer comprehensive 30-hour training program provides individuals with the skills and knowledge they need to make a meaningful impact in the lives of others. These dedicated volunteers are the heart and soul of our organization, and they rely on our training to be effective in their roles. Over the last decade, our volunteers have collectively donated 340 years of time to help save and change lives by offering empathy, guidance and help. Not only do our volunteers support texters in their moments of need but the skills they gain also help them support their family and friends as well as navigate their own mental health.
Keeping it Free: We believe that access to these services and training should be available to all, regardless of their financial circumstances. Did you know that it costs $23 just to help one texter and over $1,000 to train just one volunteer? This is why your support is so critical on Giving Tuesday as you are helping us keep our service and training free.
How You Can Make a Difference:
Donate Today: Your generous donation, no matter the size, will make a huge impact on people’s lives. Every dollar makes a difference.
Get Creative: Host your own Giving Tuesday fundraiser to support our mission. Your creativity can lead to an even greater impact.
Become a Volunteer: If you’re able, consider giving the gift of your time. Join our community of dedicated volunteers who are supporting individuals in emotional pain, 24/7. Our training is virtual, interactive, and self-paced to provide volunteers with the freedom and accessibility to learn at their own pace whenever and wherever they are.
Spread the Word: Share this blog and the message of Giving Tuesday with your friends, family, and colleagues. Encourage them to join us in supporting our cause.
Gift Support, Give Support: Check out our Giving Season campaign where we focus on empathy at the center of our actions–to come together and seize the opportunity to give back.
Giving Tuesday has grown into a remarkable day for good, reminding us of the significance of compassion, and generosity. Thank you for your unwavering support, and happy Giving Tuesday!
