What Your Gift to Crisis Text Line Makes Possible This Giving Season
Giving Season starts November 9. Get to know what your gift to Crisis Text Line makes possible.
When someone is overwhelmed and feeling alone, a text to Crisis Text Line can connect them with a trained volunteer Crisis Counselor to be there for them, any time, anywhere. Your generosity is what keeps that door open. This Giving Season, our theme is Count On It: This Season, Count on Hope. People count on us at every hour, like Ana did.
Ana reached out to Crisis Text Line when she didn’t know where else to turn. Someone answered, and she didn’t have to face it alone. Today, Ana answers texts as a volunteer Crisis Counselor, giving others the same support she once received. Being a scared teenager who needed help is what moved her, once she was feeling better, to pay it forward.
Ana’s story is a reminder of what a donation to Crisis Text Line makes possible: a person reaches out, someone answers, and that support can ripple outward for years. When you give, you help make sure the next person who texts gets an answer too. Every text. Every reply. Every single time, someone is there.
Every gift to Crisis Text Line supports free, 24/7 mental health support for people in crisis. Here’s what different giving levels can do:
- $28 supports one texter in their time of crisis.
- $238 supports one hour of supervision, so every volunteer Crisis Counselor has guidance and backup during high-traffic times.
- $1,008 supports a volunteer Crisis Counselor’s training, preparing someone to answer their first conversation.
Any amount makes a difference, and no gift is too small.
New to Giving? Start Here
If you’re donating to Crisis Text Line for the first time, here are answers to the questions we hear most.
- Where does my donation go?
Your gift goes toward free, 24/7 text-based mental health support. That includes connecting people in crisis with volunteer Crisis Counselors, training and supervising those volunteers, and the technology and team that keep the service running. - What does my money actually do?
It makes sure someone gets an answer. A gift can help cover a conversation, an hour of supervision, or the training that prepares a volunteer to show up for a stranger on their hardest day. Every conversation starts with a person reaching out, and your donation helps make sure there’s someone on the other end. - Is my gift tax-deductible?
Yes, Crisis Text Line is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and gifts made by December 31 may be deductible for that tax year. For the details, read our guide to tax-deductible donations. - Can I give monthly, and why does it matter?
Yes. A monthly donation is one of the most powerful ways to give, because crises don’t follow a schedule. A monthly gift gives us steady, dependable funding to plan staffing and training, so we can be there every day or night, not only during a campaign. You can start with any amount and change or cancel anytime. Set up a monthly gift. - What if I can’t give money right now?
You still count. Volunteering, checking in on a friend, and sharing our number all help, and you’ll find ideas below.
Other Ways to Help
- Start a fundraiser. Invite your friends, family, and coworkers to count on hope with you. A fundraiser turns one donation into many, and it’s an easy way to give back without giving more than you’re able to. Raise $500 or more and we’ll send you a free Crisis Text Line t-shirt as a thank you.
- Share your story. Stories help people feel less alone. If Crisis Text Line has been part of your life, as a texter, volunteer, donor, or someone who’s been touched by a loved one’s struggle, your words can show others that reaching out works and that support is closer than they think. Share only what feels right to you. You decide the details, and you can stay anonymous. We’ll always ask permission before featuring anything.
- Give your time. Become a volunteer Crisis Counselor and answer texts from your own computer. Bilingual in Spanish and English? Learn about our bilingual volunteer opportunities.
- Check in on someone. A quick message to a friend or co-worker can matter more than you think. Not sure what to say? Read our guide on how to help someone who feels lonely.
- Share 741741. Save the number in your phone and pass it along. Anyone can text CONNECT to 741741 for free, confidential, 24/7 support. Sharing our Giving Season posts on social media helps spread the word, too.
This holiday season, and every day of the year, people count on Crisis Text Line to be there. Your gift helps us keep that promise, and it means someone who reaches out tonight will find a caring voice on the other side. That’s what it means to count on hope.
Need support right now? Text HOME to 741741 to reach a live, volunteer Crisis Counselor. It’s free, confidential, and available 24/7.
